Policy Statements

Guardian Ad Litems

The Continuing Legal Education Commission shall give credit for education not traditionally designed for lawyers whenever the Supreme Court by rule mandates prerequisite education designed to prepare attorneys for specialty service to the judicial system such as the area of guardian ad litems (GAL). If such mandated education includes multi disciplinary programs designed for several disciplines, such programs which are designed and have special application to the practice of law and/or the rendition of the specialty service for which it is designed shall qualify for credit. This policy is limited to those situations which require education in cross-disciplinary training or otherwise under mandate from the Supreme Court.

This policy affects only GAL's and does not cross over to other practice areas. Attorneys not registered as a GAL will not receive credit for attending a GAL only program. In addition, an attorney must be a member of the panel presenting the program or a portion of the overall program must address the practical application of the topic for attorneys.

For questions or comments regarding this policy, please contact info the Kansas CLE Commission.
